Contamination Control
Contaminated lubricant is the "number one killer" of equipment! The cause is not just a single problem that can easily be remedied. To eliminate lubricant contamination requires a change in operational corporate philosophy. Starting with new lubricant handling through to component based particulate/moisture ingress control. The move from a reactive "wear metal" mentality approach to oil analysis, to lubricant contamination and oil condition is required. The process requires time, patience and investment in people, plus the right equipment.
"throwing money at a problem does not guarantee it will go away!"
Understanding the underlying issues that contribute to make the problem appear, then proactively correcting the operational / procedural mistakes, in most cases, ensure the problem never reappears!
Does it work? If new oil is filtered down to 17/14/11 ISO, from 20/18/15 ISO (most new oil) and contamination is kept out of the lubricant, an expectation of an addtional 3 times more life from the same component is realized!
